The April meeting brought three new members (Joe, Kevin, and Mike) to DOZE.  They seemed very enthusiastic about joining the club to learn more about brewing. Make sure you meet them and critique their beers.

There is an AHA Big Brew day at Heretic Brewing on May 7th. They will provide the malts, hops, water and yeast. So far two brewing systems from DOZE will be making the trip up there to brew one of the Big Brew beers. You can join them or just pop on by to check out what is going on up there. Here is the link to the Big Brew day.

There are a couple of upcoming competitions for you brewers. One is the State Fair and the beer is due in Sacramento by May 7th at one of the listed homebrew shops. Another is the Sam Adams Longshot contest. They will be accepting beers in July. There is also the Ballast Point 20th Anniversary competition. This is another nationwide competition with the beers due between May 11 and May 25. And, of course there is our own GABF-Pro-am comp with Black Diamond. Those beers are due at Black Diamond by May 7th.

The Pleasant Hills Brews and Blues Festival will be on July 15-16 with homebrewers featured on Friday night, the 15th. You can enter your beer and serve it at the festival by going to their website. It will be a people’s choice contest and the winner will have their beer featured the following year!

We then had an excellent presentation from Matt S. and Vito about their turbid mash brew. When these beers are ready to serve, not only will they be great, but also a labor of love.
