Our monthly meeting at Beer Beer and More Beer in Concord. Socializing starts at 6:30, we get down to business at 7. Topics this month will include the awesome showing by club members at recent competitons, upcoming club competitions and brewing technique.

It probably comes as no surprise to regular club members, but Mike McDole is one of the three winners in this year’s Sam Adams Longshot competition. His beer will be released in a 3 pack later this year, and will be available in stores nationally. Awesome job Mike, as usual! According to Jon, Mike is also pushing hard towards California Home Brewer of the year, along with Virg Redman. Keep up the awsome work guys.

The DOZE entry in the September/October Club Only Competiton picked up a 3rd place! Congratulations to Scott Lothamer and Justin Crossley for their “Black Peter”! The upcoming November/December comp is Pilsners with Dark Lagers coming up really quickly in January.

For those who missed the meeting last night, Rachelle should have the 2007 club t-shirts at the next club meeting or in time for NCHF. This year’s colors are red and blue tye dye. Some members have talked to me about an option for DOZE shirts on a plain colored t-shirt. This link has several options (t-shirts and a collared golf shirt). I’ve set the prices at cost, and there is no ordering minimum.

Kevin Pratt will be hosting the first of his BJCP Prep Classes as part of the next DOZE meeting (7/30/07 @ B3). The topic: Bad Beer; a sensory training class involving doctored brews. This should be an awesome followup to the off smells talk a few months back, and a meeting not to miss.

Quite a meeting last night… Eric gave the style talk (BJCP 18E) and shared quite a few commercial examples as well as some of his own beer. Check out his website Eccentric Cellar Brewing for some recipies. Doc got a large pile of “stuff” that seems to indicate DOZE did pretty well at the May Faire competition, congratulations to the usual suspects. After the break, Sean Paxon showed off with a Rochefort brewery tour report from his recent Belgium trip.

Since the May meeting falls on Memorial day, we are going to postpone it one week to June 4th. Still at More Beer. See you there.

Kevin Pratt (BJCP Assistant Continuing Education Director) announced that he’s setting up prep classes for the BJCP Judging Exam. Classes will be held at B3 and will prepare brewers for the BJCP Judging exam to be held in November. The class will cost around $100 ($50 for the test, $35 for class materials, $15-20 for beer tastings) for 9-12 sessions. This is an awesome opportunity to learn more about beer and brewing, and a chance to help out the brewing community by becoming a judge at competitions.

A big brew at Erik’s house. Bring your brewing rig (or some portion of it) and brew with the club. If you’ve got an Easy-Up or shelter, bring it along.
