Researchers resurrect new species of life from ancient Andean tomb Close to 1,500 years ago, indians living in what is now Quito, Ecuador buried their most revered dead in 16-meter-deep tombs. An ancient alcoholic beverage was commonly included in these burial vaults. Now, by examining the clay vessels used to ferment and store this brew, a team of South American researchers has managed to not only recover the microbes the indians used to ferment the ancient beverage, they’ve actually revived them…and they’re unlike any species they’ve ever seen.

Sudwerk Brewery Dock Store Event: Sunday February 12th

As discussed in the January meeting, DOZERS have been invited to a get together at the Sudwerk Brewery Dock Store in Davis this Sunday. The Dock Store is a small tasting room in the brewery with four taps to show off recent creations from the Sudwerk brewers.? The doors at 2pm and keep pouring until at least 7pm.? I am not sure what beers they will have but be be beers not likely to be found anywhere else.

Forty-one beers were entered for judging at Oakland’s recent Oaktoberfest festival.? Those 41 entries were placed for judging in about a half-dozen combined categories.? Beer as good as water at rehydrating after exertion

A new study from the University of Granada in Spain indicates that beer, in moderation, does as good a job at rehydrating one’s body and replacing needed minerals as does drinking water. A study presented today in Brussels (Belgium) shows that moderate consumption of beer after practicing physical exercise is as effective as drinking water for rehydration and recovery, experts say. Dr. Manuel Castillo, of the University of Granada , presented the results of the tests conducted with a group of young men, which consisted of measuring the body’s reaction to the ingestion of water or beer after strenuous physical exertion .
