From what I remember, DOZE brews the best beer in Northern California! If fact, we have a certificate to prove it.
I am 100% certain that every DOZE member at NCHF had a great time this year. We were well behaved at Hoppy Hour on Friday since not one of us ended up in the pool. That was a strange location, but it seemed to work out. Then came our potluck in the lower campground where the food was amazing and there was plenty for everybody.
The 2016 September meeting will include a NCHF update, answers to your brewing questions, gadgets, BOTM, and of course feedback for your homebrew. I am planning on having a little game called “create your OWN recipe”, to see how you are at selecting malts and hops. Kind of like schoolwork. See you there!
The San Francisco Homebrew Guild is excited to host the 2016 CA State Homebrew Competiton this year. We will be returning to Anchor Brewing Company for the Finals this year on Saturday November 5.
Please feel free to forward to friends and/or others in your homebrew club(s) to help spread the word.
The entry registration window is open. More information is available on our competition website: http://castatebrewcomp.org. Please go there to register your entries.
We have a lot to cover in the August meeting!! Besides the regular stuff, such as BOTM and NCHF, we will have a special guest (Mike McDole) who will talk about “Fast Lager Fermentation”. After the break we will have a presentation about temperature control featuring gadgets such as the ST1000, the CoolBot, and the GhettoChill 9000 peltier cooled ferment chamber. And then we will squeeze in a short demonstration from Pavel about a device to transfer beer/mead/cider from small carboys.
The Smithsonian Food History project at the National Museum of American History, in Washington, DC, is seeking a professional historian / scholar to conduct archival and field research for a new initiative on American brewing history, with special emphasis on the craft industry. The position is located in the Division of Work and Industry and will be a three-year appointment. The successful candidate will have proven experience in scholarly research, organizing and conducting oral history interviews, writing for both scholarly and general audiences, and knowledge of material culture and archival materials.
Ok, specifically me (Nesto). My second time on the show and it’s a pretty fun one with my Northeast Kentucky Breakfast Stout…

The July 2016 meeting will be at the usual time and place featuring your awesome beer! We will have the BOTM table, a brief style talk, Q&A session, and perhaps some information you can use.
After the break, I would like to discuss your methods for oxygenating your wort.
Bring a gadget to share!
What’s summer without a picnic or two. What is even better is that you can share this one with your fellow homebrewers, great food, and beer in a nice shady spot.
Our annual multi-club picnic (for Mad Z, DOZE, BAM and the Draught Board) will be held on Sunday, August 21st at the Briones Regional Park in the Newt Hollow picnic area. The park opens at 10:00am and the picnic officially starts at 11:00am – but you are welcome to arrive earlier.
